My name is John Phillips, this is my first semester at the college. I am 29, married and have 3 children, 2 girls, 4 and 2 years old, and a son who was born on my birthday in September of 07. I am youth minister at FBC Meridian and have been full time there since Nov. 07. Prior to that I was a firefighter/paramedic with the Cleburne F.D. for 6 years. My wife and I will celebrate 7 awesome years together this June (9 if you count the dating). If you can’t already tell, I am a blessed man. The Lord has abundantly provided for me and once I really figured out that His will is my blessing I offered all of me to Him. I lived for many years as a half hearted worldly excuse of a Christian and I am not proud of that but thank God for the lessons learned and the good He has brought out of it. I would love to talk to anyone about what the Lord has done for me, it really is an amazing story of how God carries us.

Love In Christ,
John

Hello, my full name is Edward Walter Smith III, some people call me ed, but most go with Edward, whatever you like. I was born into a christain family in haverhill Massachusetts, where I spent all of my pre-college life. I have five siblings, two girls, and three brothers, one of whom is my older twin. We were all homeschooled, two still are, the other four are at college now. At the end of highschool I really didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew of a small bible institute that had a one year program, where you just study the bible. Because it doesn’t offer any degrees most students there have to transfer to another school, to help us out they have a college fair, it was there that I found out about southwestern. I had a really busy summer because of school requirements wasn’t able to apply to come here for the fall, so I attended my community college. I still don’t know what I want to do with my life, but God has been teaching me to be completely opoen about what he might have for my life, and not to do just what I want.

Here is a quote I’d like to share.

“For men who think that they can secure for themselves unshakable glory by pretence and empty show, by dissembling in speech and countenance, are wildly mistaken. True glory takes root and spreads its branches too; but everything false drops swiftly down like blossom; and pretence can never endure.” – Cicero

God has created each of us special….. Let’s not compare ourselves with another, lets be exactly who God created us to be. Pretence can never endure.

Hello Everyone,

I would like to recommend a book entitled ‘Culture Matters’ - A Call for Consensus on Christian Culture Engagement by T.M Moore. We do it without realizing, but we somehow intermingle with culture every day. In this book Moore shares his observations on culture and supports Christian unity in culture matters. He also emphasize past figures who were partly responsible for the way culture has taken form (Augustin, Calvin). At the end of each chapter there are questions for study or discussion. Here’s an excerpt form the book:
“Perhaps the vast majority of contemporary Christians hardly give culture a second thought, at least as it relates to their faith in Christ. It’s not that they are not engaged in culture; they just don’t think about their involvement all that much, at least not from the perspective of their Christian beliefs. They have simply absorbed the tastes, habits, manners and cultural preferences of their environment throughout the course of their lives.” (Culture Matters)
I still have a couple more chapters left to read, but I’m really enjoying this book. Check it out!

Although it is provided by UMW (United Methodist Women), it was useful for me to get to know about church and empires. I was able to find enough information for the class, so I would like to share.

(If there’s any difference between such information provided by the Methodist and the Baptist,) since I am learning at the Baptist seminary, I hope to be able to distinguish soon. Let me know.

About Me
My name is Sarah Babler and Jesus Christ has completely turned my life around. When I was seven years old He showed me what a terrible, sinful person I was and the consequences for my behavior. Thankfully I also heard the good news, that Jesus paid the price for my sins and I asked Him into my heart, He is my Savior and Lord. It is my desire to serve Him with my life in whatever way He leads.
As of now He has led me to Southwestern and this is now my second semester there. I am in the homemaking program and not quite sure what will happen after that, my guess is whatever He wants. Maybe missions, maybe Brazil, like I said I don’t know to much about future plans but I do know that today will present many oppourtunities to live for Him and I think I will try to focus on those.

I’m Jonathan Pacheco, i’m 18 years old, and I love Jesus with all of my heart. This is my second semester here at Southwestern. I’m in a motorized wheelchair due to an injury between c-1 and c-2 of my cervical spine. Doctors tell me that i’m very lucky to be alive. I found the Lord at a very young age. I’ve lived in Texas all of my life, and never want to leave! Believe it or not i’m in a band:] I play keys/samples for a called braver than you, we are currently writing our music and will start playing shows in april. It has been a blessing coming to Southwestern and from what I hear I probably won’t Graduate for another ten years so its a good thing I enjoy it here!

I’m Reece Presson, i’m 18, and yes, I am the one that’s still in high school. I was born here in Texas, in Bedford to be specific. I play baseball and basketball for a high school team here in Fort Worth. I also play volleyball, golf, football, soccer, and just about any other sport, with friends. I play the piano, and can play some guitar too.

I have 3 siblings that are incredibly awesome! My sisters, Addie (15) and Avery (11), are both beautiful, sing in choirs, and dance ballet. My little brother, Ross, is one of the most athletic 9 year olds you’ll ever meet! My parents, Tim & Lynn, are extremely fun people, though I can’t truthffully say we always get along, I love them.
I’ve been homeschooled all the way through, and though I didn’t use to like it, I thank my parents for the hard work and the time they put into it. They gave me a good, solid, well-rounded education. I will be graduating in May, finally!
My father is a pastor here in Fort Worth at Redeemer Church. I was obviously raised in a Christian home, and came to Christ at a young age. I am astounded at His grace, because I now see my own deficiencies, and see His perfection.
I will be coming to the College this fall full time. I will be doing the Humanities degree with a concentration in Philosophy. After that I plan to go to law school and see where God leads after that.

I had a privilege to visit a Midland Baptist Church last Sunday to preach. I took the passage from Hebrews 2:1-4 which it talks about the great salvation. And when I was dilligently studying for that passage I was taken a back that how many so called Christians would fall back from true Chritianity of Jesus Christ our LORD. And as I was giving the sermon I could urge them, and myself, that if it is that great we are to share it to the world more eagerly.

The world is looking for a true definition of Christianity not a new definition of it.

Studying the church histroy and Christianity has been giving me many thoughts….Discovering what had happend to many Church Fathers, I was proud of the fact that I am a christian, but at the same time I was ashamed of my passive act as a christian.

I would like to share a quote from Tertullian, one of the Church Fathers.

“The more we are mown down by you [pagans], the more in number we grow; the blood of Christians is seed…Christians are theachers not just by thier words, but by their deeds.”
